With Browse index you can leaf through the indexes of the database. You can browse both phrase and word indexes. You can for example leaf through an alphabetic list of all the subjects used in the database. Click on the Get button to start browsing an index.

Maximum |
Select maximum number of hits to be displayed on a page. If the total number of hits exceeds what is displayed on one page, you can leaf between the pages to see all the hits. |

Select which index to search in. It depends on the database which indexes are available. |
Filter |
Enter a search (letter/word stem) to narrow in the corresponding index. Default is "a". Search in the indexes is not case sensitive. Ie: it finds words regardless of them being spelled with upper/lower case letters. You can also search for numbers and special characters |

The number the index term gets in the index. The uppermost term in the list is number 1. |
Index |
The index terms themselves. All index terms are linked to records that contain the term, and a click on the links gives you the Hit list over the records. The indexes are always based on the records that have been catalalogued in the database. |
Count |
Shows how many records contain the index term (the term must exist in the indexed field). |
Index: Subject and Search for:
Polar
finds all terms beginning with "Polar": Polar Circle, Polar expeditions, Polarity (the terms must exist in records in the database.
You find Browse Index by going via Simple search (click on Search in the WebCat menu to the left on the pages). On the page for Simple search you will find hyperlinks to Advanced search and Index search (Browse index).
