You can search in freetext (all fields), or in four predefined fields: Title, Author, Subject or Year. Use the Start search button to trigger the search. The Clear button empties all fields. Search in WebCat gives you hits on words regardless if they contain upper- or lower case letters (the program is not case-sensitive). If you want more detailed control over your search you can proceed to Advanced search or Index search.

Several words can be entered with a space between them. The words are combined with an automatic AND, except for Year where there is an automatic OR. If the search contains one or more spaces, all the words must exist in the records to produce any hits.
Truncation means using a wildcard to replace one or more characters in the search term. All words entered in Simple search are automatically right-truncated. You can also left truncate or truncate in the middle of words. If you insert a * or a % you replace one or more characters, and if you insert a _ you replace one character only.
